During our time in Düsseldorf we needed a hotel which was central and had an excellent location to explore, all the while having a little extra which left us wanting more. Of course, we also wanted somewhere which was value-for-money; not too bougie, but also not budget. Enter The Cloud One Hotel Düsseldorf. Whilst somewhat unassuming from the photographs online, this hotel really surprised me and was. my home-from-home.
Here is my quick review to help you plan your next visit to the Dorf, one of my favourite cities in the world. Enjoy.
The Cloud One Düsseldorf | My Quick Review
Location of the Cloud One Hotel
Düsseldorf is known for its modern energy, fashion and architectural design. In fact, you just need to talk a walk down Königsallee to see all the high-end design shops and the beautiful buildings. In recent years though, the city of Düsseldorf have really spruced up the area around Schadowstraße. Whilst you have the vintage, iconic landmarks of the Düsseldorf Theatre (Schauspielhaus) and the Dreischeibenhaus, the rest of the area looks surprisingly futuristic. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it looks as nice as any newly-developed area in Europe.
What makes this even better though is the vicinity. You have a both a tram and U-bahn (underground) stop right by the hotel, allowing you to explore to your heart’s content. The stop in question is Schadowstraße, which has great connectivity across the city. Should you not want to catch the incredible public transport though, the hotel is right on the newly-built shopping street. You have so many different shops and arcades to choose from, and you’re only about a 2 minute walk from Königsallee.
Another thing I loved about the location though was the close proximity to the hofgarten. In fact, when we had a sunny moment and wanted to escape the bustle of the city, we headed into this part of the city. I don’t think I’ve seen so many different birds in one city park before.
Overall – the location genuinely couldn’t be better.

The Room
Our room at the The Cloud One Düsseldorf was a standard room and it was located on the third floor. The price of the room was a little over £100.00 a night and, for that, you got a large, comfy bed (with the German-style twin duvet covers – always a win), a newly-developed bathroom and a little desk area. I would say that the size of the room was also decent. The quality of the bedding and soft furnishings weren’t what you get in a top 5 star hotel, but that is to be expected. It isn’t the Cloud One’s niche and, for what you got for the price, I thought it was excellent value for money.
The showstopper though was the view from our room. We had some amazing views over the modern Schadowstaße, which tied in with the contemporary design of the hotel. It was a far-cry from the older Düsseldorf I had grown up with, and echoed the city’s desire to become a modern, artistic hub in Germany.
I genuinely felt that the hotel was our little home-from-home whilst we were there. A good sign of a top room is that you feel sad when you leave it. I think that the Cloud One achieved just that.

Cloud One Bar and Breakfast
Without doubt, the best thing about the Cloud One Hotel Düsseldorf is the bar. This is located on the 7th floor and gives you a full 180-degrees view of the cityscape beneath you. There is an inside lounge, where breakfast is served, but also a terrace to enjoy drinks on. As we were here in February and we were really unlucky with the weather, we didn’t make use of the terrace, but still enjoyed the lounge.
Starting with the breakfast – or Fruhstück to our friends in Düsseldorf – the hotel put on a good selection. You had your classic German offerings of meats, cheeses and breads, along with extra continental options like croissants, pastries and jam. The hotel also served a hot option, but this was somewhat limited. For drinks, you have the standard offering of orange / apple juice, as well as a coffee machine. The food quality was good, but I could have done with a few more options. We ended up having the same things each morning – not that this was a bad thing, but I always like mixing things up.
In the evening, the bar was our go-to before heading to bed. The drinks here were really good value and, when combined with one of the best views in the city, you couldn’t really avoid it.
Top Tip: Even if you don’t stay here, the bar at the Cloud One is open to external visitors from 13:00 each day. It is a perfect place to enjoy a cheaper drink and to soak in the views. I imagine it will be incredible in the summer.

The Service
The Google Reviews of the service seemed mix when I checked before we arrived. I was a little bit hesitant and I wasn’t sure whether we would experience bad service. Luckily for us, the service was excellent and the people were friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned so efficiently that it was often done before we had even got back from our breakfast!
Final Thoughts | The Cloud One Düsseldorf
I think that the Cloud One is going places. The location is genuinely perfect and the building looks right at home in Schadowstraße. Not only that, but once the word gets out about the incredible bar I can imagine that this place will get really popular with locals and tourists alike. The hotel isn’t a high-end luxury retreat, and nor does it want to be. If you’re looking for a top hotel retreat with all the trimmings, this one probably isn’t for you. But, if you are after somewhere modern, with an amazing vantage point to explore, then this could be the hotel for you. We have stayed at a fair few hotels in this city over the years. I must say that I’ve not known a better-located hotel in Düsseldorf than the Cloud One.
