It’s probably the insane number of Christmas films, but there is something truly magical about London in December. Whether it be the beautiful light displays, the smells from Covent Garden or just the fact that it feels nostalgic, London at Christmas time just hits differently. Whilst relatively new to the UK, London does in fact have Christmas Markets, so I thought I’d write about the best ones for 2025. If you live in the UK and aren’t lucky enough to escape to Europe this time of year, don’t worry – the Christmas Markets in London are still fantastic.

Winter Wonderland
Obviously, you can’t talk about Christmas in London without mentioning Winter Wonderland. This is an iconic market which returns each year to turn Hyde Park into a festive playground. As well as all of the rides, there are plenty of alpine-style chalets which sell the classic (mostly German) Christmas Market food.
There aren’t too many homemade decorations here like you’d find in Europe, but there is lots of entertainment. This year you have the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink, a giant observation wheel, and lots more! There are also themed areas, such as the Bavaria Village, Santa Land and the new Luminarie Lane.

Southbank Winter Market
If you think Hyde Park is too busy (and I wouldn’t blame you) and are after atmosphere, head to Southbank. The market is perched right on the riverside, making it perfect for a steam cup of mulled wine.
The market features plenty of exciting food stalls featuring global cuisine, this year featuring duck wraps, the ‘perfect’ burgers and the classic American hotdog. It is a deliciously international food experience.
There are also gift stalls which sell anything and everything, including jewellery and handmade clothing.

Leicester Square Christmas Market
In the heart of the famous West End, you’ll find Leicester Square. In this year’s festive season it transforms into a small market. You’ll find food and gifts at the stalls, alongside beautiful Christmas lights.
However, as it is the West End there of course needs to be a bit of a show put on. This year the beloved Scenes in the Square returns and you can see interactive bronze statues of famous film characters. Mr Bean, Paddington Bear and Bugs Bunny are just a few honourable mentions. Additionally, La Clique returns to the square for a special festive performance. Expect to see a dazzling cabaret circus.

Greenwich Market at Christmas
Greenwich is one of the most historic neighbourhoods in London. If you like variety, but also quieter markets, this one is probably for you.
Firstly, the Greenwich Market is open until 6pm each day and has the classic stalls serving food and drink, but with a Christmassy twist! You’ll find special food and drink, as well as plenty of Christmas decorations.
Nearby is another must-see when in the area during December; Christmas at the Greenwich Peninsula. Here you’ll find an incredible 10m tall tree and a gorgeous carousel. The fun doesn’t stop there though, as you’ll also find more market stalls selling the typical festive treats.

Trafalgar Square
The Trafalgar Square Christmas Market is arguably on of the most traditional. Think of the classic wooden chalets, warm drinks and a giant, towering 25m Christmas tree. Incidentally, the tree is actually a gift from Norway which lights up London each year, and has been since 1947. You’ll also find carol singers underneath the tree this year, with regular performances throughout the day.

Covent Garden
Covent Garden is incredible year round, but at Christmas it just goes one step further. First off is of course the decorations. Since 2023, these comprise of 40 gigantic bells, each with a large bow. There are also 12 giant baubles and 8 spinning mirror balls. When set off against the iconic Covent Garden structure, it makes for a really special setting.
Inside you’ll find a mouthwatering menu with different Christmas-themed treats, as well as a huge gift shop and various pop-ups, including from Lego. If you are after shops and want to experience the classic London atmosphere, I would recommend this market first. However, if you are after the classic Christmas Market, then this isn’t for you.

Winter by the River at London Bridge
For some of the best views of the Thames and of Tower Bridge, head to Winter by the River. It is another riverside market There are many different food and gift stalls, ranging from more traditional Christmas foods to things like pizza. Overall it is a much smaller, quieter market, perfect for a get-together after work or with friends.
What I love most about this place in 2025 is that curling has returned. You can gather your friends and family and try your hand at this interesting, but fun, winter sport!

Old Spitalfields Christmas Market
The Old Spitalfields Christmas Market is perfect for any foodie. Whilst Spitalfields shines in this area all year round, it really comes alive this time of year. You’ll find that all of the stalls that are there have little twists on their menu, making it perfect to really indulge in street food.
What’s more though is that this is a perfect place for shopping for those last-minute gifts. There are plenty of boutiques and mainstream shops nearby for you to explore.

Kings Cross pop up Christmas markets
Lastly, why not check out King’s Cross? Whilst you wouldn’t expect a station to be on the list of best Christmas Markets in London, it actually hosts a lovely pop-up event each year. You’ll find an eclectic mix of different foods and gifts here, as well as live music and festive workshops.
If you are after something a little bit different, check this one out and see what the fuss is about.
