Düsseldorf is a trendy city and with that comes a host of trendy eateries, and more importantly coffee shops! Alongside the traditional breweries, there are plenty of independent and hipster-style coffee shops, many of which are very popular with the locals. From the Altstadt to Oberkassel, here are my personal top picks to help you find the best coffee in Düsseldorf.

Rösterei Vier – Altstadt
📍Wallstrasse, 12
Let’s start in the Old Town, where you’ll find Rösterei Vier in two locations. Personally I think the best pick here is the filter coffee, which is perfectly infused. Having said that, the cappuccinos are also very good. Both locations are nice, although I would particularly recommend visiting the smaller Wallstrasse branch which gives all the hipster vibes.
Top Tip: They take their coffee extremely seriously here. You can choose your own beans and flavours, so take your time and pick the one which sounds just right for you!

Woyton – Multiple Locations
The first chain on the list, Woyton can be found in multiple places across Dusseldorf. In every location, the cool, German vibe follows. I think that the prices here are mixed. The coffee (which is what we are here for!) is excellent and is reasonably priced. However, if you are looking for a bit extra, food can be rather expensive (though it is delicious). Either way, Woyton is some of the best coffee in Dusseldorf and a must-have when you are there.
Cøffe am Carlsplatz – Carlstadt
📍Benrather Strasse, 6B
Believe it or not, this one actually used to be a former health store way back when I lived in Düsseldorf. Nowadays though, it offers a great cup of coffee. Personally, I love the retro, Scandinavian fusion that makes up the interior of this cafe. It just feels like a really cool place to be and to meet with friends. Adding to that is the tasty food that they offer. I am a bit of a sucker for their lemon tart and would highly recommend it.

Kaffeeschmiede – Oberkassel
📍 Belsenstraße 11
This modern micro-roastery offers a variety of delicious smooth and full-bodied coffees. They pride themselves on being ‘unstylish’ and focus on just a great cup of coffee. One thing that I love about this place is the commitment to local produce. Even some of their coffees use German beans. If you are looking for an honest and good cup of coffee, this is for you.
Velvet – Stadtmitte
📍Stresemannstrasse 8
Velvet was the first coffee shop we went to in Düsseldorf which had a line outside. Why? Because this is one of the trendiest places in the city. The industrial setting (right next to a car park), the fishbowl-like exterior, and the murky interior give this place a truly modern and hipster setting. The coffee here was good, though the focus here isn’t necessarily just on this. It is more of a cool hangout spot which doubles as a bar into the evening. If you want to up your aura, this is the one for you.

Café Schvarz – Flingern Sud
📍Ronsdorfer Strasse, 74
When I visit Dusseldorf, a trip to Café Schvarz is a regular occurrence. If you are looking for a hipster vibe, crossed with an industrial New York attic, this is for you. I just love how cool it makes me feel just by sitting there. The coffee is also very good too and again an emphasis is placed on local produce. The issue is that they are only open on Friday and Sunday, so make sure that you plan ahead if you want to get there. If you can get in though, brace yourself for some of the best coffee in Dusseldorf.
Align Cafe – Stadtmitte
📍 Oststrasse
I stumbled across Align whilst I was researching new coffee places during our February 2026 trip to Düsseldorf – and I am glad that I did. It is a small little shop which is attached to a corresponding fitness centre, and it serves incredible coffee. This is quite different to Velvet; think open, airy, whites and greens. It is perfect for enjoying the taste of a great cup of coffee and unwinding. There are even seats where you can properly relax back. Oh, and did I mention that their banana bread is the best I’ve ever had?

Kaffee Handwerk – Flingern Nord
📍Birkenstrasse, 127
I really like it when there is a proper commitment to producing an exceptional cup of coffee. With that in mind, Kaffee Handwerk succeeds in delivering just that. I think that this place really focuses on producing some of the best coffee in Dusseldorf, as opposed to other factors. The price tag here is also really good. For instance, you can get a signature ice latte for only four euros. Definitely value for money and an excellent cup of Coffee
Die Röstmeister – Oberkassel
📍Quirinstrasse 1a
Die Röstmeister is possibly my favourite name on the list. They also have a suave interior and serve some great food. They have 8 differently roasted coffees that you can relax and sample too. Similarly to Kwandrant, this is a great place to sit down and relax. However, I would actually argue that the food of this place makes it slightly better for a lunch. At the heart though is great coffee, which is what we are here for!

Café Kwadrant – Pempelfort
📍 Blücherstrasse, 51
Café Kwadrant promises customers a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. It serves as a perfect meeting place for friends catching up over a great coffee. Whilst takeaway options are available, Café Kwadrant definitely is more of a ‘hangout’ place. Arguably the Dusseldorf equivalent of Central Perk. If you are meeting with friends, this is one of the best options on the list.
